I engraved the sentence “The end of something is the beginning of something else” on a sheet of gold. The phrase is written in English and Arabic, two symbolic languages. The English language representing the Western culture, also known as the Occident; and The Arabic language symbol of the RTL ( commonly shortened to right-to-left, top-to-bottom) script. This combination for me was a simple and emblematic way to visualize this phrase.
While the sculpture was in the street I conducted interviews with several people to get their opinions, about what they thought would happen if I placed a gold plate 18k in the public space. Most of the people agree that the gold plate would disappear or be stolen.
The 18k gold plate was placed in the public space for 24 hours and it was not stolen.
